Bordeaux Named World’s Best city
I remember sitting in a café with a friend in Southern California and marveling at how special the city of Bordeaux had become. It was at that time that we came up with the Maxwell-Storrie-Baynes tag line – “bringing Bordeaux to the world and the world to Bordeaux.” These past ten years have been a privilege as we have done our best to tell those who will listen to us that Bordeaux is a spectacular city and for me personally it is the best city in the world.
It was no surprise then when in 2015 the city of Bordeaux won European Best Destination 2015. Robin Alves writing for One Europe said “Bordeaux has been named the best European travel destination of 2015 in an online competition that attracted nearly 250,000 votes.
The town beat competition from Lisbon and Athens, which came second and third respectively. It is safe to say that Bordeaux, one of France’s most elegant cities, is a key destination for everyone interested in French culture.”
But this year Bordeaux has been named by Lonely Planet revealed its world’s best city for 2017. Writing in the The Independent it stated “Bordeaux has been named the world’s best city, according to Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2017 list.
Known for its occasionally left-field choices, Lonely Planet highlighted the French city’s new wine-themed visitor experience, the Cité du Vin, its “gastronomic revolution” and forthcoming high-speed rail line as reasons it had been bestowed the title.”
The top ten list was as follows:
“The top 10 cities, according to Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel
- Bordeaux, France
2. Cape Town, South Africa
3. Los Angeles, US
4. Mérida, Mexico
5. Ohrid, Macedonia
6. Pistoia, Italy
7. Seoul, South Korea
8. Lisbon, Portugal
9. Moscow, Russia 10. Portland (Oregon), USA”
